Present: Jennifer Harrison, Mark Cobb, Julia Dorminey,

Announcements
Julie
reported on Council of Unit Presidents meeting at ATE summer workshop.
- GATE is invited to
send a team to a workshop on working with legislative representatives to
be held at the ATE Chicago meeting.
Let Julie know by Dec. 1 if you are interested in attending.
- Gate is encouraged
to create a scholarship to send a teacher to the annual meeting.
Thanks
to Dara for our new website www.gaate.org. Please send him any comments/suggestions.
Edi,
it is time to send the annual report to ATE – October 1 each year.
Sheryl
gave the treasurer’s report (attached). We have over $30,000 in accounts.
An
issue is changing bank accounts from city to city as treasurers change. Edi could maintain copies of original CD's. We need to find out who has them now and keep
an official record.
We
have a sizable amount in bank. How do we
want to spend it?
- Could spend it on
speakers awards - speaker will raise visibility - have to work on now for
next year.
- could lessen
conference registration but that doesn't seem to change attendance -
- helps to have some
cushion if we have a hurricane - check contract to see how it might impact
us...we would want to keep about $10,000 as cushion
- could put into
conference amenities
- could support scholarships
for students- books; set up a scholarship fund and then use interest -
provides GATE visibility -
- Talk at business meeting-
what are worthwhile activities given our mission? How can we support membership
Julia
reports that we have sixty three memberships paid, sixty regular, one life and
two retired; this seems low for this time.
We discussed other possibilities for collecting membership dues. The directory is a great service for members,
publicize this. A suggestion was made to
put the directory on our website - password protected.
Julie
reports on the fall conference.
- We have 31
proposals and 30 are accepted.
- Julie and Beryle
met with hotel contact.
- John Lounsbury will
speak at the opening session and Joyce King at the luncheon. Think about awards at opening sessions –
we will have more time.
- The College of Education at GSU will sponsor
coffee break that morning.
- Beryle, Gwen,
Deborah and Jennifer will coordinate the receptions. They
will let us know what we need to do/bring.
- Julie has folders
from previous years to put program, etc.
Gwen
reports on sites for 2005. Please find out where GACTE is in the
spring. Suggestions include: Unicoi state park, Callaway - Albany – Okefenokee area, Veterans
State Park between Americus and Cordele - decide by spring. Find
out SRATE date and where it will be held.
Ask Crowne
Plaza if we book now for
next year now, will they sponsor a breakfast?
Beryle
reports on the scholarship for student
in two-year College. She needs a
committee to work on details. Gwen,
Deborah, Shirley volunteered to serve on this sub-committee.
- We decided to
change the GPA requirement to 3.0.
We want to include information in conference materials - Beryle
will bring copies to put in packets.
- We want an award
letter signed by president and we hope to award the first one spring
semester.
- Make this part of our
awards program.
Beryle
shared the ATE resolution she
presented at the ATE conference. It was
tabled until the Chicago
meeting so send Beryle feedback.
Newsletter – we should consider
doing the newsletter as part or a link on website - Jennifer and Dara will work
on this. All board members should take
responsibility for getting information to Jennifer.
Our next meeting is from
7-9:00 on Wednesday,
October 20, 2004 at the Crowne
Plaza in Atlanta.
